Teaching Philosophy and Method

Why Music Studies?

Studying piano will offer an opportunity for one to enhance and expand other life skills: good communication, patience, confidence, and joy.  One will learn and improve in the areas of self-discipline, self-esteem, self-management, poise, teamwork and goal setting.

My Teaching Philosophy
It is my goal to guide the students to a greater understanding and enjoyment of music making experience.  It is also important to me to make sure that my students receive a well-rounded music education and to see them obtain functional music skills that they can have for the rest of their lives.
Professional standards will be maintained and individualized goals will be established for each student.  In order to enrich my professional growth and enhance my own teaching skills, I belong to professional organizations, attend workshops and educational programs, subscribe to professional publications, and engage in other musical activities on a continuing basis.

My Teaching Style and Method

Lesson curriculum will include repertoire, music history, theory, ear-training, composition, sight reading, performance practices, and how to practice at home.  I am very involved with my student during lesson times to ensure that what we are doing is understandable and clear.  Therefore, I incorporate a variety of musical activities during lesson times on the floor and at the piano to teach and reinforce learned concepts.   To help and motivate students to develop fully as pianists, supplementary materials are given as needed. Supplements will include sheet music in various musical styles of jazz, pop, Broadway, or other music that interests the students.
